In just one year â€" from 2012 to 2013 â€" the utilization rate of the bike as means of transport in Copenhagen, Denmark, increased by 5%. After years of stability in the rate of use of the vehicle, there has been an increase of 36% to 41%, in what is one of the cities with the highest rate of use of the bicycle as a means of locomotion.

But what caused this significant increase, even for a city where the bike is already widely used? Is not fully proven, but the most obvious evidence for this increase of 5% is the construction of a new subway in the city, whose works are held in 17 different locations and were driving within the city a Herculean task, referred to the Tree Hugger.

As such, the Danes chose to use the bike, since the 17 points of construction have abolished much of the road space for cars. It is expected that when the construction of the new subway is complete, the utilization rate of the bike back down, but at least the inhabitants of Copenhagen will have a new meter, that can be used as an alternative to the car.
